Temporary Residents!

We've always enjoyed the birds that grace our backyard....This year we have a Robins nest just outside our back door......In fact I can take photos right through the glass in the door. This Robin does not spook easily either....when I or Buddy go outside .....she will stay in her nest. She does fly away if someone she doesn't know too well goes out. She also gets a little camera shy....lol..

But sometimes .......she likes to pose

But lets me know she sees me........ Thinks if she ignores me .......I'll go away.... Then ...she acts a little irritated and looks like she saying, "That's it lady.....no more pics today"

Before the year 2000 we lived in a different house. In that yard we had a family of tree swallows take up residence every year for about 4 yrs. When we decided to move....we really thought about them and how much we would miss them.....

Well... they seemed to just..simply follow us to our new home. They appeared the very first spring we were here...and have raised a family here each year since. They arrive around or in between my birthday (May 6)and Mother's Day. I can work in my garden right under the bird house and they won't spook. Although usually one of them will be watching me from the above cable wire. Here is a photo this year of them taking up residence.......

I will keep you updated on the Robins progress......hopefully with some nice photos. I will also dig up some baby tree swallow photos from before......Hey...I might even share some pics of my gardens. Don't worry!! ....I'll still be showing some cards.....

But for today!!....it's Mother Nature.....

Have a Wonderful Weekend Everyone...filled with Warm Spring Blessings!!

what fabulous photos! and just great that she doesn't spook easy! Last year we had a wren that made a nest ontop of the light right above our back door - ok.. so now light for a while cuz I didn't want to cook the eggs - but it was worth it to see them (I had to stand on a chair in a near by window... but I could see them!) only bad thing was the mess on our "welcome" mat!

Ila,

Thanks so much for posting these pics--it amazing how birds can show you what mood they're in just by putting their head a certain way--the last one made me chuckle out loud--she looks like she's saying "Don't mess with me" in that one. It's so nice that you let them have their nest--so many people tear them down which I think is sad. I love birds and these pics are really sweet!
Hope you are well!
Blessings,
Sarah

Those are wonderful pics Ila, TFS! Yesterday I had a baby bird get under the sprinkler water, I thought it was dead at first, but no. So I moved the sprinkler...and the little cutie waddled right back under the water, we did this 4 different times, it was fun to watch. :) xx

So cute Ila - we have a robins nest out on our deck too. The babies just flew the nest today and I feel so sad that I won't see them anymore! Wow, I guess that will be preparing me for when my kids flee the nest, lol!!! Gorgeous pics!

Hi Ila! These are beautiful pictures of the Robins and Swallows. How nice to have them make themselves at home in your home! We would never see anything like this in Hawaii. I like your captions with the Robin's expressions. Nature is wonderful isn't it? Thank you for sharing such a rare opportunity. Hugs, Cami

Great photos Ila. We were fortunate enough have a robin build her nest in a bush right outside of our front door 2 years ago. We got to expirence the journey and she also let me photograph her. It's so amazing.
We have another one this year, but she is a little on the shy side. Keep us updated. I lovce the pics.

We had a Robin's nest for the first time this year. Unfortunately, the Momma bird has abandoned it. And, there are eggs still in it. Bummer!
